Summer greetings, friends!
With the thermometers soaring to 3 digits, and a super-busy road schedule, it's been a challenge to find time and a cool enough spot to sit for a spell and write - and hard to believe that just last month, we were enjoying the glaciers and icebergs of Alaska... But we have lots to share, so grab an iced tea and chill out for a moment with us.
In July, we had a dandy time on the Alaska Bluegrass Cruise. We had a great group of attendees this year. Bluegrass Radio Network celebrity Terry Herd was there along with his wife Cathy and daughter Amy. Lots of laughs, lots of music, good workshops, and spectacular scenery. The sparkly purple velvet curtains and golden chairs of the ship's Stardust Lounge set the stage for some magical bluegrass moments, with outstanding music from Blue Highway and The Infamous Stringdusters, who joined us on the bill.
Missy quipped, "I thought we would never be slick enough to work in a place called the Stardust Lounge."
The final jam brought out all three bands for a fun finale:

My New Guitar! I'm happy to say I finally have a new guitar - not that my old G-65 hasn't been faithful! But it's been a long time since I've gotten to play on a new box. This time, it's a G-70, again from Gallagher Guitar Company in Wartrace, TN. I can tell it's already "a hoss" ...just a matter of time before it opens up. Thanks to Don Gallagher and all my friends in Wartrace! If you're interested in their line, feel free to visit their site: www.gallagherguitar.com. Here's a picture of 'er - yep, she enjoyed the cruise and those yellow chairs, too.
34 Shows and Counting... ...with Jason Thomas. We're truly blessed (and happy). All the comments we get are that he's a perfect fit for the band. Here he is enjoying the Stardust ambience.
IBMA SWEEPSTAKES: Be a Winner! The Claire Lynch Band will be performing at IBMA's Fan Fest this year, and we've love to see you there! Click here to enter the IBMA Awards Show and Fan Fest Sweepstakes: more than $2000 in prizes will be awarded, so why shouldn't you be one of the lucky ones?
We spent some amazing days in Grass Valley, CA at the music camp there - getting to know the students, enjoying the company of fellow instructors, seeing Murphy Henry play accordion...! Then there was NashCamp, where it's impossible not to have a good time. Thanks so much to Cindy Sinclair for her smooth, Southern hospitality. Then we headed to RockyGrass Academy in Lyons, CO, where we taught along with the Kruger Brothers, Nickel Creek and the Del McCoury Band, among others.
It was so good to be back out playing in California this year, at the Grass Valley Father's Day Fest, Live Oak Music Fest, and Huck Finn Jubilee. I think the CLB may have hit a good lick this time! Thanks to KVMR for the broadcast.
